This event will focus on providing you insight into the local US-Japan job market and landscape across Florida.

We will discuss techniques to translate soft skills learned on JET into your next career, how to utilize career coaches and recruiters and what networking actually is and how to do it well.

Featured Speakers:

  • Cori Hallock has worked with Japan-related non-profits for nearly 20 years. Currently, she is Interim Executive Director of the Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth (JASDFW), President of the Florida Japan Exchange & Teaching (JET) Program Alumni Association, and a founding director of the Japan-America Society of Miami/South Florida.

    Before moving to Miami, she worked with JASDFW and the Fort Worth Japanese Society (FWJS). She served on the FWJS board of directors from 2014 until 2022, where she served as chair of the Membership and Development Committee and chair of the Japanese American Oral History Project. During her time on the board, she helped FWJS obtain its first grants from the Japan Foundation and the North Texas Community Foundation’s Fund to Advance Racial Equality. She was a performing member of FWJS Dondoko Taiko for 10 years. From 2014-2017, she served as Program Manager at JASDFW, where she managed 1,000s of volunteers and organized over 30 annual business and educational programs. She returned in 2023 to serve as Interim Executive Director. As a student, she was an intern with the Japan-America Society in her native state of Indiana (JASI). She taught English in Hokkaido, Japan through the JET Program.

    Cori is licensed to practice law in Texas (inactive) and received her J.D. from Notre Dame Law School. She graduated from Seton Hall University with a B.A. in Spanish, a B.A. in Asian Area Studies (Japanese), and a minor in Business Administration. She also attended Sophia University’s Summer Intensive Program.

    In her free time, she is an author and illustrator of children’s books and enjoys traveling with her family.

  • Takeshi Yamagishi is a Manager at Quick USA and a dedicated career consultant whose life took a significant turn during his middle school days in Ishikawa-ken after a transformative encounter with a JET Program ALT at his school. Takeshi went onto become a JTE and worked with JET ALTs in the Japanese public school system. His career eventually changed course and he now works with Quick USA and lives in Dallas, TX with his family.

    Inspired and impacted by his interactions with JET Program participants, Takeshi is on a mission to give back to the JET community. Takeshi has successfully supported many JET alumni to help them understand the various Japan-related job markets and industry landscapes, guiding them towards career opportunities that fit their interests.

  • Tsehay Wright (Nagano, 2015-17) started her post-JET career at a Japanese manufacturing company in Georgia, transitioning from HR Generalist to Recruiter. Here, she discovered her true calling - nurturing talent and equipping job seekers with the tools for success. Leveraging the power of networking, Tsehay assumed her current role of Career Coach at Georgia State University’s Robinson College of Business, specializing in guiding MBA and specialty master’s students in conducting successful job searches.

    When she’s not working, she volunteers her time as the Secretary of JETAASE and enjoys hanging out with friends at a local restaurants and cafes around Atlanta. She loves connecting with aspiring JETs, current JETs and JET alumni.

  • Jessyca Livingston (Hokkaido, 2003-06) is the executive director of USJETAA. She leads the organization’s mission to strengthen the US-Japan relationship through the network of nearly 40,000 JET alumni and 19 JETAA chapters across the USA. Prior to taking the helm at USJETAA, Jessyca facilitated the bi-lateral relationship on a grassroots level via the Japan America Society of Colorado and she also worked for several years as the JET Coordinator at the Japanese Consulate in Denver. Jessyca has a long history of leadership in the JET community at the local, national and international levels including helping guide the JET community through its response to the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. Her US-Japan relations work now spans 20 years of dedicated service.
