About USJETAA:
The United States Japan Exchange & Teaching Programme Alumni Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that promotes cross-cultural understanding at the grassroots level through support and resources for the nearly 40,000 JET Program alumni, the 19 US JET alumni associations, and the rest of the JET community. 

Position Summary:
USJETAA seeks a well-organized, detail-oriented individual with exceptional writing and editing skills to join our team as the next Programs & Membership Coordinator. This person should enjoy relationship building, and creating and executing events/programs. The Programs & Membership Coordinator will engage heavily with our 19 affiliated chapters, individual JET alumni and our community partners to offer and assist in the execution of events and opportunities, leading to a strengthened JET alumni network. This position will also work closely with the rest of the USJETAA team to fortify member relations and communications by providing information, fielding questions  and developing and implementing strategies to increase membership. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for 1) identifying and implementing ways that USJETAA can practically support regional JETAA chapters to help them become more sustainable and dynamic within their local communities; 2) creating and executing events and programs that serve the JETAA community’s interests and needs; 3) nurturing and increasing USJETAA membership and engagement at large.

Requirements: 

  • Knowledge of and interest in the US-Japan relationship

  • A passion for community building and community service in the US-Japan context

  • Ability to work independently while functioning as part of a team

  • Well-organized and detail-oriented

  • Availability during US standard business hours; some evenings and weekend hours will be required

  • Legal authorization to work in the US

Preferred:
(we acknowledge that not all candidates will meet all the criteria outlined below; candidates will be assessed on their unique knowledge, skills and attributes)

  • JET Program alumni who understands the general JETAA ecosystem and larger US-Japan landscape

  • Familiarity with Wild Apricot database system, Google Workspace, Monday.com, Discord, Squarespace, Zoom

  • A systems thinker who can assess how to improve processes and implement those ideas to the long-term benefit of the organization and its constituents

  • Ability to collaborate and communicate professionally and effectively with USJETAA team members, JETAA chapters and community leadership to promote, engage and broadcast events and opportunities

  • A creative problem solver, especially in regards to IT resources, in support of USJETAA’s website, communication strategies and online platforms

Responsibilities include: 

  • Effective coordination of in-person and online programming and events

    • event/program design, preparation and execution

    • event/program logistics and coordination

    • working with the USJETAA team to help create & disseminate promotional materials

    • updating and editing USJETAA website as related to programming and events

  • Membership coordination for JETAA chapters and individual alumni

    • membership administration

    • updating and editing USJETAA website as it relates to membership administration

    • utilizing membership data to inform event and program creation

    • working with database manager to streamline member communications and engagement

    • assessing JETAA chapter needs and strategizing solutions

  • Occasional domestic travel

  • Other duties as assigned
