USJETAA Welcomes Nihongo as a JET-Owned Business Sponsor for the Japanese Reading Group
USJETAA is excited to welcome Nihongo as both a JET-Owned Business sponsor and a sponsor of our Japanese Reading Group! Nihongo is a Japanese dictionary and study app designed for iPhone and iPad, offering features like flashcards, camera-based word lookups, and Safari integration for seamless word searches while browsing. The app also allows users to copy Japanese articles or books directly into it, automatically generating links to dictionary entries for each word, along with a flashcard deck to support vocabulary retention.
Nihongo was developed by Chris Vasselli, a JET spouse who lived in Hyogo from 2012 to 2014. After returning to the US, Chris wanted to continue improving his Japanese, so he built Nihongo to help make the most of the limited time he had for self-study. Nihongo made it easy to grow his vocabulary by studying the words he encountered while playing games in Japanese and watching dramas and anime. Since 2018, Chris has been working full-time on Nihongo and its sister app, Nihongo Lessons, which provides a structured, immersive path for mastering vocabulary and grammar.
As part of this sponsorship, Nihongo is offering JET alumni three months of free access to Nihongo Pro, unlocking advanced features like SRS-based flashcards and enhanced study tools. (Thanks, Chris!) You can learn more about this opportunity by downloading the app and redeeming a free subscription by visiting this link.
We’re thrilled to have Chris and Nihongo onboard as a JET-Owned Business sponsor and look forward to seeing this partnership support our Japanese Reading Group participants and our alumni who continue to study Japanese. Whether you’re studying on your own or with fellow alumni, we hope you look into Nihongo and take advantage of Chris’s generous offer to access Nihongo Pro. 勉強頑張ってね!
We hope to see you at one of our upcoming monthly Japanese Reading Group sessions, hosted by JET alum Daniel Morales (Fukushima 2005-08). お待ちしております。
