June 19 at 12 PM ET- Clean up for Sarah with JETAANYTime: 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. (Optional picnic at 10:30 a.m., email for details)Location: Hermon A. MacNeil Park, College Point, Queens. Take the 7 Train to Main Street Flushing, then transfer to the NORTHBOUND #25 bus (the stop is on Main just south of Roosevelt Ave., east side by the Duane Reade), which will drop you by the park at its last stop. Meet at the playground where Coastal Preservation Network will be setting up.Details: Sarah Auffret was a Tokushima JET who went on to contribute to the effort to clear plastic waste from the world’s oceans, especially in the arctic. She was lost in the 2019 Ethiopian Airlines crash while on her way to a UN conference in Nairobi. Coastal Preservation Network will be hosting the cleanup and will provide gloves, bags, and tools. We will be cleaning up the shoreline, so sturdy shoes or boots are recommended. Don’t forget your sunscreen, bug spray and water/food.
