Course: How Race and Ethnicity Shape American Life
Registration is open for Mya Fisher's (Kanagawa, 2000-2002) 4 week, sociology, mini-course on "How Race and Ethnicity Shape American Life." It's a slimmed down version of a semester-long, college, sociology course she used to teach. This course is specifically tailored for members of the U.S.-Japan community, including Japanese interested in learning more. Artist Laurel Lukaszewski featured in the Artomatic Top 10
Laurel Lukaszewski (Kagoshima, 1990-1991) is a DC-based ceramic artist, known for her intricate installations and sculptures, was featured in the Artomatic Top 10. Alumna Wins 2019 Career Convergence Recognition Award
Career counselor Emily Frank (Hokkaido, 1993-1996) co-wrote a paper with Sue Motulsky on creating positive spaces for career counseling with transgender clients. The paper won the 2019 Career Convergence Recognition Award. Read the article here.
Joint Runner Up for Best Oral Presentation at UK Implementation Science conference
Dennis Li, PhD, MPH (Okayama, 2006-2008) presented at the UK Implementation Science conference, winning joint runner up for best oral presentation. His research is on furthering implementation science in HIV research through coordination of, consultation with, and collaboration among 65 projects to end the HIV epidemic in the US. DanKnowJapan Launch
JET alumnus Daniel Lowe (Chiba-ken, 2011-2013) launched a new website, DanKnowsJapan. The site explores ways to improve our language learning, grow more connected with Japan, and live healthier and more productive lives.What Dan says about the project: After the success of the JETs Who Get Things Done Facebook Challenge, which attracted 600 members, I was eager to start a new project. As we entered the social distancing phase of COVID-19, I read several books on productivity and healthy living. I realized that I could apply so much of the lessons I was consuming to Japanese language learning, the JET Program, and other areas related to Japan. Social distancing also gave me space to improve my processes and reflect on mistakes, so my weekly newsletter has a "mistakes made" section - both to force me to reflect on the prior weeks and to caution others.
