Remembering 3/11
Today marks eleven years since the Tohoku region of Japan was devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
Every year on March 11th we remember those who lost their lives in the triple disaster. Our hearts go out to the loved ones of those lost, and the survivors who have been on the long road to recovery over the past eleven years.
Though this disaster left painful marks on many lives, we also look to the future with hope as we think of the resilience of the Japanese people and the success of the revitalization of the Tohoku region.
Rikuzentakata’s “Miracle Pine Tree” pictured here is one symbol of that resilience, as the 200-year-old pine continued to stand in the aftermath of the quake
