Career Services Just for JETs

USJETAA offers JET alumni free personal career counseling sessions and a free resume course with small group sessions to JET alumni on a first-come, first-served basis. Space permitting JET alumni are able to  participate in both services (a career counseling session and the resume course), but you must register for each separately. Our career and resume expert, Emily Frank, is a JET alum who wants to give back to the JET community and so will be offering a discounted rate of $120 for additional counseling sessions. Please see below for more details on these services.

Building a career can be hard work, especially for people with international experience. But you can have a career you love! And Emily Frank is here to help. She will work with you to help you find a career path that will make you happy and help you shape up your resume to land those jobs.

To be eligible for these programs, you must be an alumni of the JET program, a member of USJETAA, and a resident of the U.S. You can become a member as part of the registration process. However, for a better user experience you may want to register as a member prior to registering.

If you are already a member, we recommend signing in first using the button at the top right of this page, then navigating to the “Events” page to sign up for these programs.

All of the services take place online, so you can participate from your home or work.

Funding for Career Counseling and  the Resume  service is generously provided by The Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership (CGP) and CLAIR.

Winter/Spring 2021-2022 Career Counseling & Workshops

Career Counseling – Full, but waitlist available

This program is limited to 25 slots annually. First come, first served basis. A waitlist is available once sessions are filled.

Is Career Counseling for You?

The career counseling service is great for JET alumni who are still figuring out what they want to do or who are thinking about changing careers. The free career consultation is a one hour virtual session with minimal email support. All one hour sessions will take place virtually through the Zoom platform. There will be 25 sessions offered to JET alumni on a first-come, first-served basis. JET alumni will be placed on a waitlist once these free sessions run out in case spots open up or someone cancels. Emily will also offer discounted sessions at the special JET rate of $120 to those who are not able to get a free session or those who would like additional sessions.

Resume Workshop

There is no registration limit for this program.

Is the Resume Workshop for You?

The resume course and workshop is to help JET alumni create an industry specific resume to land their dream job! Once you register you will received the link to the free course with your registration confirmation. You will then need to click the “Enroll for Free” link and set up an account to access the course.  The course and quiz at the end must be completed by February 11, 2022. After completing the course, you will email Emily your updated resume in Word or Google Doc format so she can provide feedback on your resume.

In February you will receive an invitation to a resume workshop session. Group sessions will take place prior to the end of February 2022 and will be scheduled for nights or weekends in Eastern Time. During the workshops, Emily will give industry specific advice and answer any questions about your resumes over a one hour virtual group session through the Zoom platform. You may attend one or multiple sessions. If you cannot attend the sessions live recordings will be emailed to all workshop participants afterwards.

This year the resume workshop group sessions will be grouped on following topics:

  • Early career
  • Mid-career
  • Senior career
  • Changing fields
