Reach the World

January 12, 2017

Want to help bring the world into American classrooms this year? Interested in exploring the world through the eyes of a college-aged traveler who is studying or working in Japan? Reach the World, a New York City-based nonprofit, is seeking volunteer editors for its global education and mentoring programs serving K-12 youth nationwide.

The Opportunity: Becoming a Reach the World volunteer editor is a unique opportunity to mentor a college-aged traveler by helping him or her to hone descriptive writing skills. Your collaborative work will make the benefits of travel accessible to K-12 American youth. Through your connection with your traveler, you will be able to take a virtual journey, too!

The Role:
Review travel-themed stories and photos posted by Reach the World’s college-aged travelers in Japan to make sure they are ready for distribution to children in schools around the nation. Provide encouragement and feedback to help your traveler grow as a writer and better serve their classroom. Support your traveler’s professional development by sharing resume advice and career insights.

When and Where: Reach the World has four cycles per year: September-December (12 weeks), January-February (6 weeks), March-May (12-weeks) and July-August (6 weeks). You can volunteer for one or more cycles! You will complete your editing on your own time, from anywhere that you have internet access. Expect to spend between one half to one hour per week editing your traveler’s content during the cycle.

Information and Training Sessions: For more information about this opportunity, please see this short informational video.
If you are interested in volunteering, please complete this registration form. The Reach the World team will be in touch to provide you with training materials and resources!

Reach the World relies on volunteer editors like you to support its programs. Join Reach the World’s volunteer team this year, and let the journey begin!

About Reach the World: Reach the World makes the benefits of travel accessible to classrooms, inspiring students to become curious, confident global citizens. Enabled by our digital platform, classrooms and college student travelers explore the world together. RTW is based in New York City and provides its programming nationwide.

Reach the World’s Volunteer Editor program makes a measurable impact upon RTW’s operations, contributing the equivalent of $120,000 in in-kind services to RTW during the last fiscal year. Without volunteers like you, RTW would not be able to serve thousands of students in such a cost-effective manner. More importantly, Volunteer Editors provide important support and encouragement to the college-aged travelers with whom they are matched. The program is a win-win for all parties!
