Volunteer Language Assistants – Globalize DC Japan Program (Remote)
Shared with us by GlobalizeDC
We’re getting ready to start up our new online summer Japanese Tamago language and culture program. This time we’ll be working with DC students who have just completed 7th-9th grade, and we’re really looking forward to providing this early exposure to Japan for this younger crowd. The response from schools across the District has been great!
Our teacher, Yoko Eshita, is seeking individuals who would like to join us as volunteer language assistants.
We’re organizing this summer into four (4) one-week programs beginning next Monday – from June 28 and running to July 23. Each week we’ll meet Monday-Friday (4-6 pm), a total of 10 hours per week. Volunteer language assistants will be used to lead breakout groups for Japanese language practice, following Eshita-sensei’s instructions. This does not require prior teaching experience. Native speakers, college or even high school students with intermediate or advanced level proficiency would be great – as long as they can make the time commitment to participate. Because this is a virtual program, volunteers do not need to be DC-based.
We would be looking for one-week commitments from volunteers, and expect we’ll need one to two volunteers per week, depending on class size.
You can find a little more on the program HERE.
Anyone interested, or wishing to learn more, should contact Eshita-sensei at eshita.yoko@gmail.com. Please feel free to pass this along to anyone you know who you think may wish to volunteer. This should be a rewarding and fun experience for anyone interested in supporting eager young students at the beginning of their Japanese language learning journey
