Visiting Lecturer of Japanese language – Brown University (Providence, Rhode Island)

The department of East Asian Studies at Brown University seeks to hire a
Visiting Lecturer of Japanese language effective July 1, 2021. Minimum
qualifications include an M.A. degree in Japanese language and linguistics,
language pedagogy, applied linguistics/second language acquisition or
related fields, native or near-native fluency in Japanese, competency in
spoken and written English, experience in teaching Japanese language to
English-speaking students at the university level, and demonstrated
teaching effectiveness. Experience directing Japanese language courses is
desirable. The ideal candidate is confident in the use of instructional
technology and its applications to classroom teaching. Applicants should be
able to teach Japanese at all levels. Candidates are also expected to share
Brown’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, and demonstrate that
commitment in their teaching. Responsibilities include, but are not limited
to, teaching a minimum of two Japanese language courses at assigned levels,
and working closely with other program faculty for Japan-related events and
activities. This is a two-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal
dependent on performance and curricular need.

courses taught, a sample syllabus, and an example of classroom teaching
(provide link to online video for teaching demonstration at a minimum of 30
