Overview of Position
The Social Media Coordinator helps craft and implements the social media strategy of Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) in both English and Japanese including creating content for all social media outlets, developing brand awareness, generating inbound traffic and encouraging engagement and awareness across TUJ. Reporting to the Director of Communications and Marketing Support, the Social Media Coordinator coordinates with all academic and non-degree programs to develop content and supports their respective missions, ensuring consistency in voice and cultivating a social media referral network.
Responsibilities
The candidate will be responsible for developing and helping oversee the execution of strategic social media and digital initiatives for TUJ’s undergraduate, graduate, and non-credit-bearing programs. Among other things, the Social Media Coordinator will be responsible for developing and managing marketing campaigns, creating and supervising social media channels, and integrating interactive social media and video content and other content into overall business strategies. Other duties may include search engine optimization and search engine marketing integration as well as the monitoring and analysis of social media trends and their impact on TUJ among other things.
Specific Duties
Develop and execute a broad social media strategy, coordinating with stakeholders across TUJ to ensure accuracy and effectiveness;
Oversee and manage the university’s presence across all social media, building and cultivating a vibrant community while maximizing brand equity, engagement, site traffic, and lead generation;
Implement social media campaigns and manage TUJ’s social media day-to-day activities;
Ensure that social media techniques are strategic and focused on expanding TUJ’s brand, increase visibility among existing followers while also attracting and engaging new followers with understanding of the university market in Japan, the U.S., and globally;
Become an advocate of TUJ on social media, engage in dialogue and answer questions where appropriate;
Create engaging text, image and video content
Develop an optimal posting schedule, considering web traffic and customer engagement metrics
Develop and highlight content featuring TUJ events, professors, staff, students, and strengths:
Monitor Main Campus postings and news organizations to find relevant content to post;
Develop measurement plan defining metrics for success by collaborating with TUJ digital marketing and advertising activities;
Monitor effective benchmarks for measuring the impact of social media programs, and analyze, review, and report on effectiveness of campaigns to maximize results;
Regularly provide feedback and data-driven insights using data from social channels such as Google Analytics, Facebook insights and Twitter analytics, etc. gained from social media monitoring to develop communications strategies in a timely fashion;
Perform social media and content audits
Monitor trends in social media tools, technologies and applications;
As a member of the Department of Communication and Marketing Support, participate and support other events, activities and projects that the office is responsible for.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Excellent communication skills
Bilingual in Japanese and English
Friendly, professional, and detail-oriented
Two or more years of experience in academic administration, social media, public relations, communications, reporting, writing, video creation or related fields
Proven work experience as a social media coordinator
Strong writing skills in both English and Japanese
Multitasking and strong analytical skills
Strong project management and organizational skills
Proficient computer skills and knowledge such as in Adobe Creative Suite applications and social media platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of and work experience in higher education
Ability to integrate social media programs into overall marketing objectives and activities;
Ability to map out a social media strategy and then drive that strategy;
Ability to build a large online community on behalf of a brand, growing both the size and level of engagement of its members;
Ability to work with multiple departments — team player, with the confidence to effectively take the lead and guide other stakeholders when necessary.
Salary & Benefits
Commensurate with experience.
Eleven days paid vacation in the first year increasing to 20 days after 6 years of employment, plus 5 paid “personal and sick days” each year. In addition, approximately two weeks company-wide break over Christmas/New Year, Japanese social insurance and pension, commuting allowance, and tuition benefits for TUJ programs.
