Program Officer – Mansfield Foundation (Washington, DC)

Position Announcement:

The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes understanding and cooperation between Asia and the United States, seeks a new Program Officer in its Washington, D.C. office. The ideal candidate will be able to start work June 1 in a work-from-home capacity, with the expectation of resuming in-office operations in Washington, DC later this year.

Job Summary and Requirements

Responsibilities include working independently and as part of a team to develop, promote, implement, recruit participants, and fulfill reporting requirements for programs aligned with the Foundation’s mission. This position requires extensive coordination with Foundation staff (including offices in Montana and Tokyo), program sponsors, and cohorts of program participants throughout the United States and in Asia.

Candidates should have at least two years of work experience and a bachelor’s degree. The program officer will be working with both federal government agencies and private foundations who support aspects of the Mansfield Foundation’s activities. Responsibilities include implementing these programs, managing budgets, reporting on program progress to grantmakers, and keeping all stakeholders informed.

Some domestic and international travel is required. Asian language ability, to include Japanese and Chinese, is appreciated, but not required. U.S. citizenship or current work visa is required.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Mansfield Fellowship Program and Mansfield-PhRMA Research Scholars Program (maternity coverage): On an interim basis, this position will provide support on the Mansfield Fellowship Program and PhRMA Research Scholars Program through Fall 2021, after which the position’s portfolio will shift to the management of the following and other Foundation programs.
  • Mansfield Foundation-CIIS Forum on Northeast Asia Cooperation: This position has lead responsibility on this ongoing trilateral program between the United States, Japan, and China. The program has focused on energy and environment issues, with the possibility of expanding its scope in the years ahead.
  • Public events: Virtual and, eventually, in-person events to inform and engage the public on issues related to U.S.-Asia cooperation. The Program Manager has lead responsibility for the Mansfield Foundation’s “Capitol Hill Asia Policy Dialogues.” This luncheon series brings leading Asia experts to Capitol Hill to share their expertise and insights, providing opportunities for members of Congress and their staff to learn about issues of importance in U.S.-Asia relations.

To Apply

Send a resume and cover letter to hr@mansfieldfdn.org.

Application deadline: May 5, 2021
