Internship Description
Qualifications
* Authorized to work 40 hours a week in the US
* Excellent command of the English language
* Ability to work as part of a team in a multi-cultural setting
* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced program environment
* For non-native speakers of Japanese- at least two years of college-level Japanese language or cultural studies strongly preferred
* Status as an undergraduate or a graduate student in an education, international studies, intercultural communication, or related program preferred
* Willingness to learn the operational and administrative undertakings required of a residential educational institution
* Experience in working with youth and/or experience in living/studying/working in another country in a cross-cultural environment preferred
* Prior high school or college residential life experience a plus
* Media arts or digital technology related experience helpful
Internship Period (including a check-in day and a training day and a
check-out day)
Thursday July 18, 2019 to Sunday August 4, 2019
Compensation
$12 per hour, 40 hours a week maximum
Typically, 33 ~ 40 hours a week
General Responsibilities
* Ensure program participants’ health, safety, hygiene, discipline, positive group dynamic, and social adjustment, working under the direct supervision of the Directors
* Assist program staff in guiding participants through a daily schedule of activities
* Assist with administrative tasks as assigned
* If bilingual, be an interpreter for the participants, their parents, faculty, staff members, and others as needed
Residential Responsibilities
Residential Responsibilities – Female Residence Hall
* Reside in a female-only residence hall (dormitory.) The Program Residential Director will make all room assignments.
* Toilets and shower facilities are community style and are shared by only female campers, interns, faculty and staff. Interns may be asked to enter these toilets and shower facilities in case of emergency.
* The residence halls are not air conditioned, but we will provide a fan. You will have a single room. Bed linens and bath and hand towels will be provided, as well as all meals.

Number of Internship offered: Up to 24
Application Deadline: Wednesday May 1, 2019 or until the position is filled whichever is earlier.
Additional Assigned Duties
Interns will each be assigned to one of the following categories:
* Video Workshop intern
o Assist DCTV instructors in creating video productions with the summer program participants
* Academic intern (teacher’s aide)
o Assist language and elective teachers
* Administration
o Assist with administrative work (time sheets, rosters, general inquiries, etc)
* Social Networking Service (SNS)
o Set-up SNS sites for the program
o Provide daily updates and announcements (in English and Japanese) on social networking sites such as Facebook
o Gather photos and post on photo-sharing sites
* Events and Activities
o Assist in and organize social events for the participants and others
* Translation
o Act as a translator during academic instruction, lectures, and presentations
* Athletics
o Assist in and organize athletics events and recreational activities
* Videography
o Produce a video record of the program (not DCTV related)

40 hours per week is maximum allowable work hours
Interns are required to take one day off during every seven day period.
Keio Academy of New York is a dry, non-smoking campus. Smoking and alcohol
consumption are not allowed anywhere on the campus.
No visitors are allowed for the entire duration of the internship.
Interns must be fully committed to the educational experiences of this
summer program.

PDF version of one sided one page letter size cover letter and one sided one page letter size resume. In the cover letter, please indicate which position you are seeking either “Internship – Female Residence Hall” or “Internship – Male Residence Hall.” The resume must include at least one academic reference with name, title/position and e-mail address of the reference. The deadline for submission of the necessary documents is Wednesday, May 1, 2019. However, please note, the application will close once the positions are filled which may be earlier than May 1, 2019.
