JeenieTM is a mobile app that connects travelers on demand via video/audio with LIVE linguists who can help them with language and cultural issues (think “Uber” for languages). Linguists can sign up at absolutely no cost and then decide how much, how often and where they would like to work. It all takes place in cashless transactions, worldwide, 24/7, via smartphone. We have significant opportunities for Japanese speakers to earn extra income right now, and we think JET alumni would be ideal candidates for providing services on our platform. They can work on their own schedule from home (or almost anywhere) and get paid for their valuable language skills. We would be delighted to welcome them to our community of Language Jeenies!

Our platform is open to anyone anywhere in the world with proficient language skills. When people register, we gather language information from them initially. They also complete a detailed self-assessment to provide us with greater insights into how they learned their languages, where they use them, and which certifications or third-party assessments they have. We also conduct short interviews with many linguists.

Regarding compensation, we have 2 models: 1) In our SCHEDULED model linguists are paid a fixed project fee for assignments that are scheduled in advance; the fee may vary based on the length of the engagement and other factors, and linguists are paid whether they receive any calls or not. 2) In our ON-DEMAND model, linguists can sign on and off in the Jeenie system as they please and are paid by the minute for all calls they accept; the per-minute compensation rate is at 50% of whatever our customer pays (the standard pay-as-you-go rate for customers is $1.00/minute, so linguists would be paid $0.50/minute).

We do have a rating system in our app as well. The rating system currently does not determine compensation, but higher ratings do earn linguists a higher place in the call queue. So, the higher a linguist’s ratings, the more calls he/she is likely to receive (thus earning more compensation ).
