Instructor or Lecturer of Japanese – University of Central Florida (Orlando, FL)

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures in the College of Arts and Humanities at the University of Central Florida invites applications for a nine-month non-tenure earning instructor or lecturer position, anticipated to begin in August, 2020.

Duties: The successful candidate will teach primarily lower-level language classes in Japanese. Assignments will consist of eight classes per year. The selected candidate will also be expected to contribute to the growth of the Japanese program. UCF Information: UCF is a major metropolitan research university, enrolling over 66,000 students. Located in Orlando, FL, the center of a growing, diverse community of nearly two million people. The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures offers B.A. and M.A. degrees, as well as undergraduate and graduate certificates. Minimum requirements: A master’s degree (for an instructor) or terminal degree (for a lecturer) in Japanese or related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. The candidate must have demonstrated excellence in teaching beginner and intermediate language classes at the university or college level. Native or near-native fluency in Japanese and a high level of English proficiency is required. The candidate must be authorized to work in the USA without the need for sponsorship, now or in the future.

Preferences: Preference will be given to those with at least two years teaching at the college level and experience using a range of teaching modalities (i.e., online, mixed-mode, and face-to-face courses).

Application Process: The university requires that all applicants must apply online at https://www.ucf.edu/jobs In order to be considered, please attach the following documents at the time of application: (1) letter of application indicating qualifications for the position; (2) curriculum vitae; (3) names and contact information for three professional references; (4) a document with a link (preferably a YouTube link) to a ten-minute recording of a recently taught class showing Japanese language teaching abilities. The selected candidate will be required to provide official transcripts.
