Instructor of Japanese Language and Culture – 2020 High School Summer Abroad Program (Kyoto, Japan)
- Session 1 dates: June 13 to July 10 (~4 weeks)
- Session 2 dates: July 11 to August 8 (~4 weeks)
- Pre-program on-line training: From March 2020
- Primary responsibilities
- Plan and prepare for each day’s lesson, including the development of communicative, task-based activities that help students meet learning objectives connected to Can-Do Statements and an established curriculum
- Teach participants in a classroom setting, Monday – Friday, 9 am – 12 pm, for approximately 4 weeks
- Provide participants with timely, informative feedback during in-class activities and through class assignments against a rubric on Canvas
- Meet with co-instructors, Program Leaders, and Program Coordinator once a week to ensure students are meeting learning outcomes and that the program standards are being met
- Program Location: Kyoto
- Total class time per session: approximately 60 hours
- Eligibility and position requirements
- Native speaker or native speaker equivalency
- At least 1 year of language and culture teaching experience; 3 or more strongly preferred
- Experience teaching high school students strongly preferred
- Experience with communicative and task-based teaching methods
- High level of English proficiency, as training will be provided in English
