EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR The Japan-United States Educational Commission (JUSEC) invites applications from experienced American and Japanese citizens for the position of Executive Director. Since 1946 over 400,000 individuals have been awarded prestigious Fulbright Scholarships worldwide, which are now offered in over 150 countries. In addition to the Fulbright Program, JUSEC administers other exchange activities which align with its core mission to further educational and cultural exchange between Japan and the United States. Its headquarters are located in Tokyo and funding is provided by the Japanese and United States governments, program alumni, and a select group of sponsors.

The Executive Director will be expected to work closely with relevant government departments and agencies in Japan and the United States. Working under the direction of the 10-member bi-national Commission and administering an annual budget of over $5.5 million from the Japanese and U.S. Governments, the Executive Director supervises a staff of approximately 14 in managing the Fulbright grant program for American and Japanese participants.

In addition, the Executive Director also oversees an educational advising service that promotes educational exchange, and maintains and builds relations with Fulbright alumni and the private sector. The position’s entrustment contract is for a 2-year term commencing on or about January 1, 2022, with the possibility of renewal(s), subject to satisfactory work performance.
