J-Kaiwa stands for Japanese conversation, and it’s a monthly event open to all members of the Portland community (and now beyond), whether they are a part of JET or not. All levels of Japanese are welcome!

We did it, everyone! We made it out of 2020! Come celebrate the start of 2021 with JETAA Hawaii as we host our annual Bo-Shin-Nen-Kai (Forget the Last Year and Welcome the Next! Review Party) Let’s reconnect with old friends and make some new ones. Be our guest at our Zoom feast as we take a look back on JETAA Hawaii’s accomplishments over the year, unveil our chapter’s hopes for this coming year, and partake in a night of revelry and prizes!
To thank you for joining our event, JETAA Hawaii is offering a $15 rebate to anyone ordering takeout food from a Japanese restaurant for dinner! (Alcohol, tax, and tip not included in rebate.) We will pay both the $15 rebate and any postage used to mail the original, itemized receipt. A list of approved Japanese restaurants is included here and will also be emailed to you after you RSVP.
If there is a Japanese restaurant in your area that is not on our list, you can suggest it in the Google Form below. Pending approval from the JETAA Board, you may be able to receive the $15 rebate for the suggested restaurant.

Thanks to generous support from the Sasakawa USA/USJETAA Mini-Grant Program, JETAA Chicago is pleased to announce the first of two webinars in our series, J-Talks, centered around the themes of identity, cultural understanding and leadership, as experienced by JET alumni and individuals with meaningful connections to Japan.
For our first webinar, on Thursday, January 28th from 7-8:30 PM CST, we will focus on the hidden roots of Chicago’s Japanese community and the role of the Midwest in bridging US-Japan relations. We will be joined by three speakers from across the Midwest who will lead interactive discussions and answer audience questions.

Details: Let’s kick-off 2021 together…virtually! We will have a guest “bartender” shaking up some yummy cocktails and showing us how to use sake and shochu in unique ways. Our chefs will be recapping their live cooking events that happened throughout the week and answering any follow up questions. We will later have breakout rooms to play various games and catch up with friends.
