Career Compass Part 1: Entry to US-Japan Opportunities

This event will focus on providing you insight into the local US-Japan job market and landscape across Kentucky and Michigan. We will discuss techniques to translate soft skills learned on JET into your next career, how to utilize career coaches and recruiters and what networking actually is and how to do it well.

Featured Speakers:

  • Tsehay Wright (Nagano, 2015-17) started her post-JET career at a Japanese manufacturing company in Georgia, transitioning from HR Generalist to Recruiter. Here, she discovered her true calling - nurturing talent and equipping job seekers with the tools for success. Leveraging the power of networking, Tsehay assumed her current role of Career Coach at Georgia State University’s Robinson College of Business, specializing in guiding MBA and specialty master’s students in conducting successful job searches.

    When she’s not working, she volunteers her time as the Secretary of JETAASE and enjoys hanging out with friends at a local restaurants and cafes around Atlanta. She loves connecting with aspiring JETs, current JETs and JET alumni.

  • Kasia (カーシャ) a trilingual American who spent 8 years in Japan, including high school, college, graduate school, and her professional career. She earned her Bachelor’s from Boston University and Master’s from Tokyo’s Ochanomizu University. 

    Kasia’s career utilizing Japanese language and cultural skills began in 2003 with concert promotion, and later moved to interpreting/translating, electronics, and the automotive industry. She was able to do this while living in Japan, Poland, Italy, and the US. 

    Since starting Ikigai Connections in 2018, Kasia has been featured in various Japan-related podcasts, websites, and webinars, including the US-Japan Bridging Foundation, USJETAA, Laurasian Institution, and BFF Tokyo. Her goal is for NihongoJobs.com to become the go-to job board for all Japanese jobs in the US.

  • Takeshi Yamagishi is a Manager at Quick USA and a dedicated career consultant whose life took a significant turn during his middle school days in Ishikawa-ken after a transformative encounter with a JET Program ALT at his school. Takeshi went onto become a JTE and worked with JET ALTs in the Japanese public school system. His career eventually changed course and he now works with Quick USA and lives in Dallas, TX with his family.

    Inspired and impacted by his interactions with JET Program participants, Takeshi is on a mission to give back to the JET community. Takeshi has successfully supported many JET alumni to help them understand the various Japan-related job markets and industry landscapes, guiding them towards career opportunities that fit their interests.

  • As Project Manager, Amy Su (Gunma 2013-14) is fully responsible for Japan/America Society of Kentucky's ongoing programs, including the development and implementation of marketing strategies. She previously worked as an Executive at a Japanese medical clinic based in Singapore; Assistant Language Teacher for the JET program; Teaching Assistant for the Intercultural Communication & Psychology class at Ritsumeikan University; Volunteer member of TEDxKyoto's translation team.
